Funny how when the conservatives make a mess of things their mates always come out of it quids in. That's why I always vote conservative they are the luckiest people in history. Some of that luck's bound to rub off on the rest of us soon.

you absolute fucking lefty mongs. like it or not, the royal mail was sold in a public tender. the price paid was the market price for it, which has since gone up and then gone straight back down to where it started. can you understand how this moight be different to selling a public building to one of your friends at a price below which others bid?

In response to the PwC report, a spokesman for Tower Hamlets Council said: "In our view there is no evidence that these flaws of process are 'regular or endemic' meaning that there is no failure to comply with our best value duty.
"We await the government's reaction to the report but we urge the Secretary of State to act proportionately and to acknowledge the steps we have already taken to tighten up processes as well as the high performing nature of the council's services."
Tower Hamlets Council has released statement following publication of the Tower Hamlets PwC report:
"Whilst the PwC report identifies some process and governance issues that needed to be improved the council notes that no evidence of criminality or fraud has been identified by the government appointed forensic auditors."

To be fair, this scale of corruption isn't actually confined to Tower Hamlets is it. Up and down the country council leaders and higher ups routinely abuse their positions for personal gain and wide scale cronyism. This seems to have made the news far more than any of the stuff in the Rotten Boroughs section of Private Eye, although they've also been on his case for a while now. Regular readers have known of his shenanigans for years...

The Mayor of Tower Hamlets Lutfur Rahman has responded to the publication of the Tower Hamlets PwC report.
He said: "In April 2014, Eric Pickles announced that he was concerned about potential fraud and the Evening Standard ran these claims on its front page.
"These allegations have been rejected by PwC. The report highlights flaws in processes. These are regrettable. We will learn from this report and strengthen our procedures accordingly.
"I was always confident wild claims about fraud would not be substantiated. Both my officers and I want to get on with our jobs serving all residents in Tower Hamlets."
